But it's just like they took all the rankings, and without any thought whatsoever, just automatically penciled the Royals in at the fifth spot on the list. That's what frustrates me, because there's absolutely no recognition that Kansas City has made enough progress to compete its way out of the cellar in the Central standings.

Thanks for reading, and leaving a comment...Michael A. The White Sox spent almost a month of last season below the Royals in the standings, and while they added Nick Swisher, they dumped John Garland. Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen took a team that won the World Series two years ago and traded to get Mike MacDougal and Andy Sisco. Someone please explain to me the logic in that?

I don't see the Sox appeal.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4983471582973532961.post-74859444179813349382008-03-31T10:02:00.000-05:002008-03-31T10:02:00.000-05:00Tom,Thank you for taking the time to comment, and ...Tom,

Thank you for taking the time to comment, and I should have mentioned that I think you're a talented artist. I just took exception to your characterization of the Royals as fearful of the rest of the division. Let me remind you that the Royals and Twins split the 18 games they played against each other last year, and that was with Johan Santana. I think the Twins' pitching staff is really going to struggle this season, but that's just my opinion.

My post wasn't to criticize your artwork, which I said is very good. I just think a drawing such as that might have been more appropriate five years ago. This year's Royals will prove you wrong.

Thanks for finding my site, and taking the time to write, though. Good luck to the Twins this year.Michael A. You don't get respect from the baseball community by finishing in or near the basement of the division every year of a decade or two. With the exception of that little first half miracle run they had a few years ago, followed by a complete collapse and no follow up the next season, the Royals HAVE been the division patsies for a long, long time.

Don't get me wrong, I think they are an improved team this year and have a good chance of beating the Twins for fourth place. If the White Sox continue their free fall they might even see third. Those are expectations built on optimism, not track record.

As far as pre-season rankings go, and let's face it they mean nothing, placing the Royals higher than 5th in any category is ridiculous. They haven't shown or earned a higher spot in the last 5 seasons. Start off with a winning season, and go from there. Last year they managed to lose less than 100 games for the first time since 03, and that was the only year in the last 13 KC has had a winning season. Respect has to be earned.

Good luck to your team this season. They have some good, young talent and just need a few good breaks to play some exciting baseball. Maybe next year I'll be drawing a giant, musclebound Royal beating down all the rest of the division playersI I love Kaufmann Stadium and think KC fans the best in the division. Have a great 2008!Tom Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17694909156240353486noreply@blogger.com
